Chameleon heats up Breedekloof Soetes & Soup

Multi-talented performer Chris Chameleon, Ivan Zimmerman, Klopjag and Dana Snyman will star at the annual Breedekloof Soetes & Soup weekend which takes place on Friday July 23 and Saturday July 24.

Visitors can buy a Breedekloof Soetes & Soup enamel mug for R10 at their first winery and use it to enjoy complimentary cups of homemade country soup and discounts of between 10% and 25% on red and fortified wines at each of the participating wineries.

Each winery has added a personal touch to their programme, with the musical highlights take place at Opstal Estate, Jason's Hill Private Cellar and at Waboomsrivier Wine Cellar:

Opstal presents Opstal Live: Baby as ek verby ry...a journey with Dana Snyman and Klopjag on the Friday and Saturday evenings from 19h00 - tickets cost R160 per person including dinner. The Opstal Restaurant has a special festival menu, and the winery offers a 10% discount on Hanepoot. There will also be a vertical tasting on the Saturday where you can sample Cabernet Sauvignons from 1999 through to 2008.

Ivan Zimmerman will perform at Jason's Hill on the Friday from 19h00. The estate also offers a 6.5km hiking trail through the mountains and the Bistro is open for breakfast and lunch. There is also a discount on various red wines.

Chris Chameleon Under the Tanks at Waboomsrivier Wine Cellar is hosted in conjunction with Seven Oaks wines and will take place at 18h30 on Saturday July 24 and tickets cost R150 per person including dinner.

Badsberg is offering tastings of Witblits from the Kleinplasie Museum and a 10% discount on red and dessert wines.

Bergsig will host an art exhibition, while visitors will also get to pair wines with the following soups: crayfish, strawberry, mussel and biltong and blue cheese. The Bistro will be open for breakfast and lunch.

Botha will host a clothing and jewellery exhibition by Nelia B and stalls with farm products, Spikkel jams and home-baked biscuits on the Saturday, and offer a 10% discount on dessert wines: Hanepoot Jerepigo 2006, Red Jerepigo 2002 and LBV Port 2004.

Daschbosch (uniWines) offers children's entertainment in the form of Bak & Brou and a colouring-in competition, as well as a 10% discount on their Nectar de Provision and all Palese fair-trade wines. You can also taste the Nectar de Provision straight from the vats.

Du Preez is offering discounts on various red and dessert wines. You can also enjoy Hanepoot Martinis, shaken or stirred.

Merwida offers a special wine tasting in the cellar and discounts on dessert and red wines.

Slanghoek offers a 10% discount on dessert wines and a 25% discount on their Noble Late Harvest. There will be cooperage demonstrations by Willem Springveld on the Saturday as well as barrel wine tasting.

Something to Wine About, situated at Du Kloof Estate, offers Ouma se Sop, freshly baked roosterkoek and farm bread, as well as a 10% discount on dessert wines and a 25% discount on Noble Late Harvest.

Deetlefs and Goudini Wines will also have complimentary homemade soup, while the other wineries are open for wine-tasting and sales during normal office hours.

There are also accommodation specials - the diverse range of accommodation venues, including B&Bs, self-catering chalets, camping and caravan facilities, have a Soetes & Soup weekend special where you pay for two nights and get the third night free.
