The Bergsig Estate Lategan Reserve Collection celebrates the unique Lategan family history, dating back to the early days of wine in the Cape of Good Hope.
Padmos (also known as “Patmos”) celebrates the sailing ship that brought the first Lategan to the shores of South Africa, launching a Heritage continued by other Lategan families – like Tant Anna, a Lategan great grandmother, praised by lady Anne Barnard in her diaries as a woman of exceptional style and spirit; and Oom Prop Lategan, a visionary farmer that guided Bergsig to becoming a prosperous estate with innovation and creativity.
The vision of these ancestors combined with the ideal climate and soil conditions of the Breede River Valley has resulted in exceptional wines celebrated worldwide.
Patmos Chenin Blanc Reserve
Hand-picked during the early morning hours from a single vineyard. Left on the lees for 60 days for added complexity. A careful approach to wood maturation was followed, and meticulously tried and tested to ensure optimum elegance and mouthfeel. The wine was fermented and matured for 9 months in 300-liter French oak barrels.
Tant Anna Chardonnay Reserve
Picked at full ripeness during the hot summer days of February 2019, and only free-running juice was used. Settled at 10°C and transferred to 300-liter barrels for fermentation. Barrel-matured for 12 months before bottling.
Oom Prop Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve
The Oom Prop Cabernet Sauvignon is a selection from our finest barrels. The juice was pumped over the skins during fermentation to extract maximum colour and flavour. The wine developed over ± 24 months of maturation in 300-liter French oak barrels.
Lategan MCC Brut
Delicately crafted from 100% Chardonnay grapes with secondary fermentation in the bottle (Méthode Cap Classique). Disgorged after thirty months of lees contact and maturation. Aromatic notes of crisp citrus peel and green apple integrated with a fine yet vibrant mousse. Powerful, alive with spontaneous length!
